“A Night In Pharaoh’s Garden” is an abstract landscape composed with ancient Egypt in mind. There are passages of flat and dappled greenery interacting with pyramidal structures; one lit from within. I relied on a lifetime of National Geographic articles and countless videos of Egyptian history stored in my memory. In this case, the rigid Egyptian hallmarks and the assorted foliage produced an exotic tableau. As the painting neared completion, the palette darkened into a nocturne of shifting lights and darks with no moon.
